This ongoing and full-time opportunity allows you to work intensively with children and young people, aged 10-18 years, who are at immediate risk of entering the care system. The role is not only financially rewarding with an £35 hourly rate, but also personally fulfilling, giving you the chance to genuinely transform young lives and strengthen family ties within the community. If you are solution-driven and excel in forging positive relationships with children and families facing challenging circumstances, we would love to hear from you.

  • Engage in regular supervision and tailored development opportunities, ensuring your skills remain sharp and your professional journey is continuously enriched.
  • Access bespoke training focused on trauma-informed and intensive family work, equipping you with cutting-edge techniques and methodologies.
  • Flexible working arrangements that cater to your life and career balance needs.
  • A healthy and innovative work environment where your input is valued, and your growth is supported.

What you will do:
  • Work closely with children and families to prevent family relationship breakdowns and aim to keep children from entering care.
  • Implement evidence-based interventions through individual and family sessions designed to meet specific needs.
  • Carry out detailed assessments and create child-centred care plans reflecting the child's perspective and requirements.
  • Engage with families regularly via home visits, community sessions, and multi-agency meetings.
  • Develop trusting relationships with children, particularly those who have experienced trauma and may approach professionals with caution.
  • Provide expert guidance to colleagues regarding complex family issues and trauma-informed practices.
  • Participate in evaluating and enhancing the Edge of Care service by utilising reflective and data-informed approaches.
  • Collaborate effectively with multi-agency partners for a comprehensive support system.
  • Ensure accurate and timely upkeep of case records in compliance with statutory and local guidelines.
  • Uphold Barnsley Children's Services' values, prioritising the safety and well-being of children and young people.

Essential Requirements:
  • Social Work qualification (Degree/Diploma in Social Work) and Social Work England registration.
  • Substantial post-qualifying experience with children and families in statutory or intensive support settings.
  • Expertise in handling complex cases involving trauma, neurodiversity, and resistant behaviours.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of family dynamics, child protection, and legal frameworks.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to engage families towards achieving beneficial outcomes.
  • Commitment to strength-based, relationship-led, and trauma-informed methodologies.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and some weekends as family needs dictate.
