Job Description

We’re currently recruiting SEMH & Behaviour Support Assistants to work on a supply basis across specialist and alternative provision schools in Northumberland. These roles are ideal for those with experience in behaviour management, youth work, or SEN environments.

Responsibilities
  • Support students aged 5–18 with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, trauma, or diagnosed conditions such as ADHD or autism
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support inside and outside of the classroom
  • De-escalate challenging situations with a calm, consistent approach
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students and staff
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies
  • Assist with daily routines, transitions, and personalised learning plans
Requirements
  • Experience working with young people with SEMH or challenging behaviour (in schools, PRUs, Alternative Provisions or similar)
  • Excellent behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • A resilient, empathetic, and non-judgemental approach
  • A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
  • Team Teach or other behaviour training is a bonus (but not essential)
