Job Description
An alternative provision in South Birmingham is seeking a reliable and confident Cover Teacher to support teaching and learning across the school. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Cover Teacher who enjoys working with small classes, building relationships, and supporting students who have faced barriers to mainstream education.
As a Cover Teacher in this setting, you will deliver pre-planned lessons to secondary-aged students with SEMH needs and additional learning needs. Strong classroom management and the ability to engage and motivate pupils are essential, as well as a calm and consistent approach.
Job Role:
- Delivering pre-planned lessons across a range of subjects
- Managing small classes of students in an alternative provision setting
- Maintaining a calm, structured and positive learning environment
- Supporting students with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour
- Working closely with teaching assistants and pastoral staff
- Ensuring safeguarding and behaviour policies are followed at all times
- Experience working with secondary-aged students
- Confidence managing behaviour in challenging environments
- A calm, resilient and flexible approach
- Experience in alternative provision, PRU or SEMH settings (desirable)
- Ability to build positive relationships quickly
- Small class sizes and strong staff support
- A supportive leadership team with clear structures in place
- Ongoing support and guidance
