The Role We are seeking a resilient, compassionate, and creative Food Technology Teacher to join an 11–16 Alternative Provision in North West London. This role is ideal for an educator who is passionate about re-engaging young people who have faced barriers to mainstream education and who thrives in a small-group, high-impact teaching environment.
You will deliver practical and meaningful Food Technology lessons that support both academic progress and essential life skills, helping pupils to build confidence, independence, and positive relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging Food Technology lessons to pupils aged 11–16
- Adapt teaching approaches to meet the needs of pupils with SEMH, ADHD, behavioural challenges, or disrupted education
- Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive practical learning environment
- Use restorative and trauma-informed behaviour strategies
- Assess and track progress in line with individual learning plans
- Promote food safety, nutrition, and independence skills
- Work collaboratively with pastoral staff, behaviour mentors, and senior leaders
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent (unqualified teachers with strong AP experience may be considered)
- Experience working within Alternative Provision, PRU, or SEMH settings (highly desirable)
- Strong behaviour management with a calm, consistent approach
- Ability to build positive relationships with challenging and vulnerable learners
- Sound understanding of safeguarding and risk assessment in practical lessons
- Flexible, patient, and solution-focused mindset
- Small class sizes and high staff-to-pupil ratios
- Well-resourced Food Technology facilities
- Strong pastoral and leadership support
- Ongoing CPD focused on behaviour, trauma-informed practice, and SEND
