Hours: 35 per week
Working Pattern: Hybrid – 2 days per week in the office
Essential Requirement: Working knowledge of the Impulse case management system.
About the Role We are seeking an experienced SEN Assessment & Review Officer to join the Royal Borough of Greenwich on a hybrid working basis. This is a key role within the SEND Service, supporting the Local Authority to deliver high-quality statutory assessments, annual reviews and casework functions, ensuring that children and young people with special educational needs receive timely, lawful and effective support.
You will work closely with senior staff in a designated group of schools, building strong relationships to ensure effective communication, compliance, and improved outcomes for children and young people with SEND. This role requires excellent organisational skills, strong knowledge of SEND legislation, and the ability to confidently challenge and guide professionals, schools and families in line with statutory duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Statutory Compliance: Ensure the Local Authority meets all legal requirements under the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice (2015).
- Needs Assessments: Lead, implement and coordinate the EHC needs assessment process, gathering advice, communicating with stakeholders and ensuring timescales are met.
- Annual Reviews: Oversee and quality assure the annual review process, ensuring outcomes, provision and placement remain appropriate and clearly documented.
- Quality EHCP Production: Assess individual children and young people and write high-quality, aspirational and outcome-focused Education, Health and Care Plans that fully comply with statutory guidance.
- Casework Management: Manage a complex and varied caseload, ensuring all work is carried out efficiently, accurately and within statutory deadlines.
- Stakeholder Support & Challenge: Provide clear advice, challenge and support to schools, professionals and families to ensure lawful practice and consistent application of SEND processes.
- Reducing Legal Challenge: Work proactively to prevent and reduce disputes, reviewing cases that may lead to mediation or tribunal and advising on appropriate next steps.
- Leadership & Oversight: Line-manage the Case Coordinator, overseeing their workload, providing guidance and ensuring high-quality administrative support.
- System Use: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on the Impulse case management system.
- Strong working knowledge of SEND legislation, including the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice (2015).
- Experience managing complex SEND casework within a Local Authority or similar setting.
- Confidence communicating with families, schools and multi-agency professionals, often around highly sensitive or challenging situations.
- Ability to write clear, legally compliant, outcome-driven EHCPs.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage competing deadlines.
- Experience using Impulse case management software (essential).
