Job Description
This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved with regulatory alignment among the programme teams within the SRO programme, in preparing regulatory submissions and providing regulatory input in project development, specifically on the South East Strategic Reservoir Option (SESRO).
You will horizon scan for policy developments that might impact the SRO programme, maintain relationships with teams across the programme and with regulators, and lead on coordination of priorities within the SRO regulatory team. You will contribute to ensuring that the development of the strategic solutions successfully progresses through relevant regulatory hurdles and identify opportunities to contribute and shape the wider regulatory reform agenda.
Working in a small team, this stimulating role will give exposure to a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, providing an opportunity to develop and put one's own stamp on the role that will help shape the right long-term outcomes for strategic resource options.
What you’ll be doing as a Policy Manager
You will play an integral part of a small regulatory team within the Thames Water Strategic Resource Option (SRO) programme, which is responsible for the development of several strategic projects that will improve resilience to drought and minimise interruptions to water supplies in the Southeast whilst protecting the environment.
The regulatory landscape for these projects is still evolving, and it is an exciting opportunity to help develop a regulatory landscape for the years to come.
Reporting to the Regulatory Policy Lead, you will be:
- Progressing the delivery of the SRO regulation strategy
- Responsible for alignment across the SRO programme on regulatory issues
- Aligning on regulatory issues and submissions between the SRO team and Thames Water regulatory teams
- Developing regulatory issue resolution plans and working with the teams to implement them
- Horizon scanning for policy developments that might impact the SRO programme, analysing the impacts and presenting the findings to relevant teams
- Contribute to ensuring that the development of the strategic solutions successfully progresses through relevant regulatory hurdles and seize opportunities to contribute and shape the wider regulatory reform agenda
Working pattern - 36 hours a week.
What you should bring to the role
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:
- Experience in policy development in a regulatory and policy environment
- Ability to apply analytical skills to understand policy implications
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to communicate complex issues in a simple and accessible way
- Be a passionate individual with strong commercial awareness and mindset, with the ability to make logical and well-thought-out decisions
- Have an inquisitive mindset to stay on top of current and upcoming regulatory issues.
- Good administrative skills – minute-taking, providing secretariat support, are beneficial but not essential
- The ability to follow through with long-term issues to resolution
- Experience (or strong interest) in regulatory finance would be a benefit.
An opportunity to join a company that offers its employees a rewarding career path, allowing individuals to reach their full potential. This is an exciting time to join Thames Water as we continue to deliver our innovative turnaround plan.
- Competitive salary of £55,000 - £65,000 per annum, depending on your experience.
- Annual Leave - 26 days holiday per year, increasing to 30 with the length of service. (Plus bank holidays)
- Performance-related pay is directly linked to company performance measures and targets
- Generous Pension Scheme through AON
- Personal Medical Assessments – Open to all once a year.
- Access to lots of benefits to help you take care of your and your family’s health and well-being, and your finances – from annual health MOTs and access to physiotherapy and counselling, to Cycle to Work schemes, shopping vouchers and life assurance.
