About the Role

A well-established and ambitious building services consultancy is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their Birmingham office. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer ready to take technical ownership, lead projects, and mentor junior staff.
You will deliver high-quality electrical designs across a variety of sectors, including commercial, healthcare, education, and residential, supporting the delivery of innovative and sustainable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and coordination of electrical systems including power, lighting, fire alarms, data/communications, and security systems
  • Prepare detailed calculations, specifications, reports, and technical drawings
  • Manage project deliverables throughout all stages, from feasibility to handover
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure fully coordinated MEP designs
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior and intermediate engineers
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and design teams, acting as a key technical point of contact
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant UK regulations, standards (BS 7671, CIBSE), and sustainability goals
  • Support business development activities and contribute to improving internal processes and standards

Candidate Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or Building Services (BEng, MEng, or equivalent)
  • Chartered status (CEng) or actively working towards it (e.g., CIBSE, IET)
  • 6+ years’ experience in electrical building services consultancy
  • Strong technical expertise in electrical system design and coordination
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and electrical design software (Amtech, Dialux)
  • Excellent communication, project management, and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and mentor junior team members
